MM2H (Malaysia My 2nd Home)

The Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) was introduced by the government on 28 February 2004 to replace the old program formally known as the “Silver Hair Programme”. It is because this old programme is only open to foreign citizens aged 50 years old and above, which is mainly to attract retirees to live and spend in Malaysia. But now, with the new MM2H, it is now applicable to all foreign generations regardless of race, religion, gender and age that are recognized by Malaysia, to pay a visit. MM2H acts like a social visit pass and a multiple entry pass for a 10-years period and it is renewable upon expiry.

Before Approval

If applicants are in couple, it is advice to make the person with higher financial income or the one with older in age to be the main applicant. Applicants can bring along their spouse, children below 21 years old, not married and their parents above age 60 years old as dependents. For the school going children, student passes can be issued by any institutes. Parents will then be issued a yearly dependent pass and it is renewable.

Below are the required documents to apply for MM2H Programme:

i) A copy of resume by the main applicant which includes the following information:

– Academic qualification

-Working experience

-Skills or expertise acquired

ii) One (1) copy of MM2H Application Form – (can be downloaded from MM2H website)

Note: Applicant and all the dependents have to complete the Form individually.

iii) Three (3) copies of IM.12 Form (Social Visit Pass)

Note: Applicant and all dependents have to complete the Form individually.

iv) Four (4) colored passport size photographs

v) Copy of Passport/Travel documents (all pages including blank pages) with certification on the pages with personal particulars.

Note: Copy of previous passport is required if applicant/ defendant(s) has renewed his/her passport within the last 12 months.

vi) A Letter of Good Conduct from respective government agency.

vii) Self-declaration on your/ dependents health conditions – (Form can be downloaded from MM2H website.)

viii) Certified copy of Marriage Certificate (if accompanied by spouse)

viiii) Certified copy of Birth Certificate/legal documents (if accompanied by children/adopted children/step children/parents)

x) Letter of Confirmation from Medical Specialist/General Practitioner (if accompanied by disabled children above 21 years old).

xi) Statutory Declaration by principal applicant to bear all expenses and financial requirements for dependents during their stay in Malaysia

xii) Certified copy (s) of latest 3 months’ bank statements /other related financial document (s) to indicate the financial capability to support stay in Malaysia. Latest 3 months’ certified copies of pay slip / income statement (If employed)/ pension slip etc.

xiii) Authorization letter from applicant to Malaysia My Second Home Centre to verify the financial documents with the relevant financial institutions.

xiv) A copy of Personal Bond if submission through an authorized company (must be completed and signed by Malaysian who is one of the Board of Directors / Share Holders / Managing Director / Manager from the company).

Note: A Personal Bond is to be made for each applicant and dependent.

After Approval

The processing time for approval would normally take one to three months. Upon approval, applicants are required to open a fixed deposit bank account for one-year period on an auto renewal basis in any banks in Malaysia.

For applicants below age 50 years old, they are to put in at least an amount of MYR300,000 and it can be withdraw after one year period  but leaving minimum balance of MYR150,000 inside the bank account. It is also a need to show proof of monthly offshore income of at least MYR10,000 and the personal bank statement of the latest 3-months stating a current balance of above MYR500,000.

For applicants above age 50 years old, they are to put in at least an amount of MYR150,000 and it can be withdraw after one year period  but leaving minimum balance of MYR100,000 inside the bank account. Or to show proof of monthly off-shore income of MYR10,000 pension without needing to place a fixed deposit. It is also a need to show proof of monthly offshore income of at least MYR10,000 and the personal bank statement of the latest 3-months stating a current balance of above MYR350,000.

Next, all applicants are subjected to submit a medical report certified by any clinics or hospitals in Malaysia and also to purchase a medical insurance from any insurance company in Malaysia. A Letter of Good Conduct will be needed too.

Furthermore, in order to work legally for spouses, there is not a need to change their Dependent Pass into Employment Pass. They will only need to acquire the working approval from the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

The required documents are:

i) Cover letter and Letter of Authority from the company.
ii) DP11 Form.
iii) Job offer or Employment Contract.
iv) A photocopy of the complete passport.


There are a lot of benefits offered to the participants in the MM2H Programme.

First, participants do not have to worry about their personal transportation. As they are allowed to import their cars into Malaysia prior at least a 6-months period since bought. Or they can purchase cars in Malaysia without paying extra charges such as import duty, excise tax and sales tax. The imported or purchased cars can be sold after a 2-years stay of the applicants.

Second, participants are able to purchase residential houses in Malaysia without limitations in number of properties owned. There is a minimum value of the property that varies with different states in Malaysia.

i)                   Kuala Lumpur & other states – MYR500,000 and above.

ii)                  Sabah & Sarawak – MYR350,000 and above.

iii)                 Penang – MYR250,000 and above.

Third, there is also tax exemption for retirees to remittance their offshore pension fund into Malaysia.

Fourth, for retirees with age 50 years old and above, they can work as part timers with a limit of 20 hours per week which simply sums up to 3 days of work a week.

Fifth, it is told that the participants are not permitted to work in Malaysia, but they can setup their own business company here, being an employer and not an employee.

Sixth, participants can hire a domestic helper age below 45 years old in order to help out in cleanliness and tidiness of their houses.

Seventh, for the school going children whom are brought along by the participants as dependents, they can apply for a student visa to further their studies in any institution in Malaysia.

4. Application Process

a. Applicant pass the application form and related document to TANNET

b. Upon obtaining the approval letter from Malaysian Immigration Department, TANNET will inform the Applicant.

c. The applicant must come to Malaysia to do the necessary, like purchase medical insurance policy, medical checkup, open a bank account in Malaysia and deposit the minimum fixed deposit).

d. The whole process from application to approval via TANNET (about 30 – 60 working days)
